Migrating Birds in September Garden September 21, 2010

Ruby-crowned Kinglet

Sorry…it’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve blogged. Vacation w/hubby, unexpected trip to Milwaukee (my son had an emergency appendectomy) and many preparations for my trip to Italy. My sites have been neglected…

We’ve seen some new species of migrating birds stop at our feeders this past week. Last Saturday, we saw a Ruby-crowned Kinglet. Seems many birds are loving our maturing grey dogwood shrubs. They are loaded with white berries that our backyard birds love. Now it seems the migrating birds love them too.

Also enjoying the berries of this wonderful shrub was a female yellow warbler.

Last year I bought 5 hardy hibiscus plants and shared one with my neighbor. She was discouraged that it wasn’t growing very much so I suggested she move it. Look how beautiful it looks now!
