Paula's Patch: A Minnesota Garden

Come wander in; my gate is always open! Gardening / Birding

New perennials August 25, 2009

I went to Milwaukee to help my son move into his college apt and visited family on the way home, stopping at my Aunt’s home. She has a beautiful garden that I LOVE to wander through. We went to the local garden center and she generously sent me home with 2 new perennials for my garden that will bloom late summer into early fall. I really need bloomers for this time of year! I have a beautiful white coneflower and a white turtlehead.

I also stopped at my Mom’s and saw her amazing roses (sorry, no pic) that were creamy pale yellow with burgundy edges. Absolutely gorgeous! She also has annual coleus that was deep purple. I’ve never seen such a dark wine color; very pretty with it’s shoots of blossoms.

Since I began gardening, I try to put a couple of new perennials in each year reducing the time and money I spend on annuals. You can score some great bargains when you go to the garden centers later in the season.

After morning rain, we have beautiful sunshine this afternoon. Grow plants, grow!
