Well, summer is officially over. The hummingbirds have gone and the dark-eyed juncos have returned for the winter.
I’m always sad this time of year. Although I welcome the crisp Fall air, I don’t like putting the gardens to sleep and preparing for the winter “hibernation” and “cabin fever” that inevitably ensues.
Ah — if the weather could remain sunny and about 75 degrees — I’d happily continue puttering and enjoying my peaceful, little garden.
Happy Fall! Enjoy the weekend wherever you are.

The northern gardening season is too dang short!
When I lived in MA. I was forever forcing bulbs and planting indoor seeds, then placing germinating pots on the radiators to take advantage of the heat, which ran ALL the time due to drafy 100yr old windows! Ahh, those were the days!
Enjoy the foliage (boy do I miss that!) and start pouring over catalogues for next spring! The tulips will be back before you know it!!
All of that sounds SO familiar. I also have near 100 yr old windows; makes it really hard to find a warm spot to force bulbs! I try anyway. Today it’s not even 50 degrees and the overnight cold and winds pretty much did everything in.
Yard looks like a mess. Instead of being soothing and relaxing, it just looks like work. We have had pretty Fall colors despite the dry weather, so I’ll enjoy that while I can and dream for the days of Spring. Thanks for stopping by and taking a moment to leave me a comment. I really appreciate it. Have a wonderful weekend.
Ah, Paula, I never put the garden to bed, Mother Nature does it for me. All the leaves fall on the garden, it dies back, the birds eat all the seed heads, and I have plenty to do in spring when I am eager to get out and work. In the fall, I just meander through and relax
Great idea!
