This is the time of year to check out your garden centers and big box stores for great deals on trees, shrubs, perennials, gardening tools, and outdoor furniture.
Trees, Shrubs and Perennials
Carpe Diem! Seize the day because now is the time if you are in northern gardening zones. You can successfully plant any of these up to six weeks before your first frost date. After planting, keep watering until winter hits. They will need a good start to survive their first winter.
Oh – and while you’re there, pick up your favorite Fall bulbs for Spring blooming beauty — daffs, tulips, crocus, allium, hyacinth, and more.
Gardening Tools
Most garden centers, large and small, are clearing out all or most of their garden accessories, tools and lawn furniture. Had your eye on something? Grab a steal while the getting is good.
P.S. I’ve been working in my office with my binoculars around my neck. With all the migratory birds in the area, I’m frequently hearing a bird song I don’t recognize. They move fast, so keeping them close at hand gives me a chance to see something spectacular. Yesterday a Harris’s Sparrow visited!

Good reminder!! I still have 12 clearance pine trees to plant!
Wow, that’s quite a few!
